Native Plant Installation in Denver, CO
Plants that evolved in Colorado’s climate don’t need to be coaxed, coddled, or over-watered. They just grow — and every year they settle in a little more.

Colorado natives have been adapting to Denver’s specific conditions for thousands of years — the cold winters, the intense UV at altitude, the clay soil, the dry summers, the surprise late frosts. When you plant natives, you’re not fighting the environment. You’re working with it.
That translates to practical benefits: less watering, less fertilizing, less replanting after hard winters, and less pest pressure. Native plants also support Denver’s pollinators — bees, butterflies, hummingbirds — in ways that non-native ornamentals can’t. Once established, a well-designed native plant garden requires a fraction of the maintenance of a conventional landscape.
Our team of Colorado-certified horticulturists knows which native plants perform well in Denver’s specific conditions — not just in theory, but from 15 years of planting and watching them in our city’s clay soil and climate. We’ll recommend plants that are right for your specific yard: your sun exposure, your drainage, your soil. Call us at 303.321.1230 for a free consultation.
Colorado Native Plants We Work With
Blue Grama Grass
Colorado’s state grass. Extremely drought-tolerant, forms beautiful eyelash seed heads in late summer. Works in both formal and naturalistic designs. Takes Denver’s clay soil well and requires minimal irrigation once established.
Penstemon (Beardtongue)
Colorado has over 70 native penstemon species. Striking tubular flowers in pink, red, purple, and white attract hummingbirds. Very drought-tolerant and reliable in zone 5b. One of our most-recommended Denver natives.
Apache Plume
A shrub native to the Rocky Mountain foothills. White flowers in spring followed by feathery pink seed heads that persist into winter. Extremely tough — handles Denver’s clay, drought, and harsh winters without complaint.
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium)
Native to Colorado, extremely adaptable, blooms in white or yellow, spreads to fill spaces. Drought-tolerant and actually grows better in Denver’s lean clay than in rich amended soil. Pollinators love it.
Black-Eyed Susan
Cheerful yellow flowers from July through September, reliably perennial in Denver, easy to grow in clay. Self-seeds modestly to fill in beds. One of the workhorses of a Denver native garden.
Gambel Oak & Serviceberry
Native trees and large shrubs that provide structure and wildlife habitat. Serviceberry has spring flowers, summer berries, and fall color — one of Denver’s best-performing native trees for residential yards.
